As Kummil Panchayat marks 26 years since its formation, its achievements far outweigh its shortcomings.

Kummil Grama Panchayat is situated in the Chadayamangalam Block of Kottarakkara Taluk, Kollam district, and spans an area of 15.83 square kilometers. It is bordered by Kadakkal Panchayat to the north, Chithara Panchayat to the east, and the Pangode and Pulimath Panchayats of Thiruvananthapuram district to the south and west. The region comprising the present-day Chadayamangalam Block—including Kummil village—was once part of the 'Ayi' kingdom (known as 'Ayoi'), which existed in southern India between the Pamba River and Kanyakumari until the 16th century AD. The area was settled by soldiers who had fled after being defeated in the frequent wars between the princely states of the Pandya region. At the time of their arrival, the indigenous population consisted of tribal communities and Scheduled Castes. The newcomers cleared the forests and transformed the land into agricultural fields. The Kadakkal Revolt of 1938, linked to the national movement, was organized under the leadership of individuals from this area who had previously participated in the State Congress conference at Shangumugham—an event where three people were martyred in police firing on September 21, 1938. A public protest against unjust market levies evolved into the mass uprising known as the Kadakkal Revolt. Many people had to endure imprisonment in connection with this movement. Subsequently, numerous individuals from this region also participated in various other freedom struggle activities.
