History of grama panchayat
Kummil Grama Panchayat is situated in Kottarakkara Taluk of Kollam District and comes under Chadayamangalam Block. The Kummil Grama Panchayat has an area of 15.83 square kilometres. It is bordered by Kadakkal Panchayat to the north, Chithara Panchayat to the east, Pangode and Pulimath Panchayats of Thiruvananthapuram District to the south, and Pazhayakunnummel and Pulimath Panchayats of Thiruvananthapuram District to the west.
Until around the 16th century AD, the area comprising the present-day Chadayamangalam Block, including Kummil village, was part of the Ay Kingdom, known as “Ayoi,” which existed in the southern part of South India between the Pamba River and Kanyakumari. Soldiers who fled after losing battles among the various small kingdoms of the Pandya region migrated to this area and settled here. At that time, the indigenous inhabitants of the region were members of tribal communities and Scheduled Castes. The newly arrived settlers cleared the forests and transformed the land into agricultural fields.
In connection with the national movement, the Kadakkal Revolt was organized in 1938, under the leadership of people from this region who had participated in the State Congress conference held at Shankhumukham on 21 September 1938, where three people were martyred in police firing. The Kadakkal Revolt, which began as a people's movement against unjust market levies, later developed into a major popular uprising known as the Kadakkal Revolt. Many people associated with the movement were imprisoned and sentenced to jail.
